Seats available for Cape school board, council

CAPE ELIZABETH – Nomination papers for two seats on the town council and two seats on the school board will be available through the town clerk’s office beginning Monday, July 31.

The papers must be returned in person to the town clerk by Friday, Sept. 7 by 4 p.m. To qualify individuals must be a resident of the town and a registered voter and return their nomination paper with the signatures of between 25 and 100 registered Cape Elizabeth voters. Voters can sign as many nomination papers as they wish.

Up for grabs at the Nov. 7 election are the seats of Patricia Grennon and Katherine Ray on the town council and Joanna Morrissey and Barbara Powers on the school board. Grennon, chairman of the council’s ordinance committee and a Thomas Jordan grants subcommittee member has been serving on the council since 2014 while Ray, a member of the ordinance committee and harbors committee, has been a councilor since 2011 after serving eight years on the school board.

Morrissey, who is chairman of the school board’s finance committee, first joined the school board in 2011 and Powers, chairman of the school board’s policy committee, came aboard in 2014.

Polls are set to be open Nov. 7 at Cape Elizabeth High School from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
