Couple returns to teach Broadway

A Broadway Performing Arts Program will begin Sept. 19 and run 12 weeks. Cost is $275 for residents, or $285 for non-residents. Online registration begins Aug. 28 and walk-in, resident only registration begins Aug. 30. Registration for non-residents begins Sept. 1.

The program is offered to students in grades three through 12. Under the direction of Steve and Jane Filieo, and Suzanne Remillard, the program includes classes for ensemble singing with stage movement/choreography.

Participation in the program is by registration only with no auditions required. The ensemble singing classes will take place on Tuesdays where participants will learn songs to group production numbers from Broadway shows. The movement/choreography classes will take place on Wednesdays where participants will learn movement/ choreography to the songs they are learning in the Tuesday classes.

The program will culminate with a showcase Saturday, Dec. 9 in the South Portland High School Auditorium. The showcase will be open to the public.

The Filieos return to the South Portland community after ending their 26 years as directors/producers of the South Portland High School Musical Theater Program in 2015.

In addition to teaching singing, music, movement, acting and basic theater skills, the Broadway Performing Arts Program also offers participants the opportunity to learn self-confidence, trust, teamwork, responsibility and commitment.
