Sign up for library card this month

As summer winds down school season begins, the South Portland Public Library wants to remind everyone that September is Library Card Sign Up Month. During September, members of the South Portland community who do not have an active library card are encouraged to sign up for one. Residents, students and property owners in South Portland are all eligible to receive a card for free. The application process is quick and requires a photo ID and proof of residency, school attendance or property ownership in South Portland. A library card entitles the user to borrow DVDs, music, books and more from either the Main Library at 482 Broadway, or the Branch Library at 155 Wescott Road in South Portland.

As an added perk of getting a South Portland library card, cardholders can now borrow materials from four other area libraries through a shared lending agreement with Thomas Memorial Library, Baxter Memorial Library, Scarborough Public Library and Walker Memorial Library. You can check out items at any of these libraries with your South Portland Public Library card at no extra expense.
