SPHS marching band opens 2017 season

Marching to the music of Hans Zimmer’s “The Dark Knight,” “Gladiator,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Madagascar,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “The Lion King,” the 2017 South Portland High School Marching Band will kick off the season at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Westbrook High School.

Having just finished their annual preseason training, 70 students attended a seven-day camp in preparation for the Maine Band Directors Association’s Marching Band season. Under the direction of Craig Skeffington and staff, and led by senior drum major Andy LeBlanc, senior assistant drum major Josh Hyssong and color guard captains, junior Rachel Currie and senior Hugo Robertson, the South Portland High School award-winning gold medal marching band’s Maine Band Directors Association schedule can be found at www.mebda.org under the “Activities” tab. The season will culminate with finals at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at Sanford High School.
