Library to host traditional Irish music concert

South Portland Public Library invites the public to an evening of traditional Irish music performed by the Hanz Araki Band at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Main Library. Hanz Araki will be joined by Colleen Raney, Genta Fukue and Elly Marshall. The combination of powerful players from both sides of the Pacific Ocean will entertain and delight audiences with songs and tunes in the Irish tradition.

A singer and flute player, Portland’s Araki has been prominent in the Irish music community in the United States and Japan for more than two decades. In that time he has released 10 award-winning albums; played countless festival stages including the Vancouver Folk Fest, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Austin Celtic Music Festival, and Celtic Connections; toured internationally in Ireland, The United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Canada, and Mexico; and collaborated with a number of renowned musicians within and outside of the Celtic music genre.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. The After Hours Concert Series is free and open to the public, thanks to the sponsorship of the Friends of South Portland Public Library. For more information, call 767- 7660, ext. 2.
