Youth invited to create scary stories

Young adults between the ages of 10 and 18 are invited to participate in a scary story writing workshop at the South Portland Public Library’s main location 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Participants will use costumes and props to create their own scary characters and bring them to life through writing and illustration. The workshop will culminate with a scary story hour where students will read their tales aloud. Stories will be recorded and hosted online for families and friends to listen.

Kate Nicoll and Laura Cowie, founders of Unwritten Roads, Maine’s newest creative writing workshop for young adults, will lead the program. Nicoll and Cowie have BFAs in Creative Writing from the University of Maine and have facilitated writing and filmmaking workshops throughout New England and the U.S.

Registration for this event is required.

Young adults interested in participating can register in person at the Main Library, or by calling Youth Services at 767-7660, ext. 3.
