Planning for toy drive starts now

To the editor:

The South Portland Christmas Toy Drive needs your help.

It’s that time of year once again. Last year we helped more than 200 South Portland children with toys, boots and warm coats.

Each year hundreds of toys are collected and are distributed to families that have been identified by teachers within the school system and are delivered with the help of the South Portland Police Department. An “adopt a family” component was added and along with cash donations it allows us to fulfill the clothing needs.

Your donation is tax deductible.

We are looking for businesses, groups or individuals to adopt families for our drive. All you need to do is specify how many children in a family you would like to buy a coat, boots and some toys for.

We are also looking for donations of new, unwrapped toys, art supplies and gift cards that can be dropped off at identiied businesses. The deadline for donations is Thursday, Dec. 7.

If you would like to make a donation, checks can be made out to “South Portland Policemen’s Association Community Needs” and mailed to: Maine Roofing, 24 Bishop Ave., South Portland ME 04106.

And as always, I hope you will join us for our sixth annual toy drive party. Please bring new unwrapped toys and join us for a night of fun and cocktails.

For more information please call me at 767-4243 or email lad@maineroofinginc.com.
