Senator named chairman of state’s senior games

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging has named Sen.

Rebecca Millett of Cape Elizabeth honorary chairman for the 2018 season of the Maine Senior Games. This is Millett’s fourth year serving in this role.

The Maine Senior Games seek to boost the health and fitness of Mainers older than 45 through a number of athletic and wellness opportunities reminiscent of the Olympic games. The official season for the Maine Senior Games runs from June through October.

“I can’t say enough about Maine Senior Games. The camaraderie among participants is invigorating in and of itself; then add in the wide range of activities to encourage health and wellness,” Millett said. “We’ve got one of the best programs for older adults who on one level are looking to stay active to those who want to compete on the national level. It’s such an honor and joy to be the Maine Senior Games honorary chair.”

For the past three decades, the Maine Senior Games have offered aging Mainers the opportunity to stay active and compete in the athletic arena. From archery to the triathlon, Maine seniors can participate in at least one of eighteen different athletic activities.

Maine Senior Games is a member of the National Senior Games Association. Qualifying seniors have a chance to compete against their peers at the national level.

Registration for the 2018 Maine Senior Games is open to the public beginning in March. Learn more at http:// www.smaaa.org/msg.html.
