Library to celebrate poets

The South Portland Public Library will celebrate National Poetry Month in April by hosting an Author Talk program that features four local poets: Marcia F. Brown, Jeri Theriault, Pam Burr Smith and Jodi Paloni. Each poet will read selections of their work and sell copies of their books at a reception and signing following the reading. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the Main Library on Saturday, April 14.

The visiting poets all reside and write in Maine. Brown is the author of four collections of poetry and the essay collection “Well Read, Well Fed - A Year of Great Reads and Simple Dishes for Book Groups.” As Poet Laureate for the city of Portland from 2013-2015, she compiled and edited the anthology, “Port City Poems – Contemporary Poets Celebrate Portland, Maine” and launched the Words Matter Visiting Poets Series that features poet Tony Hoagland reading at USM’s Hannaford Hall. She has cohosted the community reading series “Local Writers at The Local Buzz” in Cape Elizabeth since 2011.

This program is sponsored by Friends of the South Portland Public Library. For more information, call 767-7660, ext. 2.
