To the editor:

Having lived in South Portland my entire life, I have observed an uncivil trend developing within our residents. The phenomenon of character assassination using half truths and lies is unfortunately getting out of control. (Regarding, “City’s joint plan is no plan at all,” page 5 in the April 6 letters section) The specifics of our sustainability director’s credentials is the following: bachelor’s degree in Russian history from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in international environmental policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Prior to moving to Maine, she worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., as an environmental protection specialist liaison between the agency and other federal task forces on waste reduction initiatives and universal waste policies. Prior to coming to South Portland, Director Julie Rosenbach was the sustainability manager at Bates College. She is more than capable of helping us recalibrate our lifestyles that will see us moving from a narcissistic to a more holistic living environment.
