Summer Heat is coming

It’s an all-day robotics extravaganza featuring high school teams from across New England, hosted by the South Portland Riot Crew, squaring off from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in the South Portland High School gym.

More than 18 teams are registered, ready to do battle in three-on-three bouts of mechanical aptitude, showing off robots built for the FIRST Robotics “Power Up!” challenge of this past season. During that regular season the Riot Crew advanced all the way to the World Championships in Detroit in April. An animation of challenge, and what teams will try to accomplish with their student-built and programmed robots, is available online at youtu.be/ HZbdwYiCY74.

The event is billed as both the biggest fundraiser and best recruitment drive for the South Portland team, as it looks forward to next season.

The event is free and open to the public.
