Charles James Nye Jr.

Charles James “Butchie” Nye Jr. died July 21, 2018. He was born Feb. 19, 1946 in Portland.

He was from Scarborough, Maine and most recently resided in Lakeland, Florida. He passed peacefully in his sleep. He attended Scarborough High School, class of 1965. He was on the Elwood G. Bessey JHS unbeaten Triple C Junior High School Basketball League Champs in 1961.

At the age of 15 he broke his neck while diving off a dock in Scarborough and after a long hospital recovery survived this tragedy. He walked with a stiff neck always appearing tall and proud. He received his GED at the age of 27. He obtained further educational degrees and certifications for his electrical engineering and welding trade. He lived a long and happy life. He was married to Linda Jane Rose at 18 on Oct. 23, 1964. She was the mother of his three children.

Their first home was in the “chicken coop apartment” on his father’s farm in Scarborough. His first job was at Len Libby working as an assistant candy maker. He then worked at Bancroft and Martin as a welder. He worked at GE as an electrician, fabricator, craftsman and welder in the heat transfer unit and worked up to supervisor. He worked at Quincy Shipyard as a supervisor, where he was disabled on the job and had to retired. He was a big thinker with big ideas and inspired to create DAD, LLC (Do-All- Dump), a telescoping trailer business with his daughter, Barbi.

He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. He enjoyed dancing, comedies, watching science fiction movies, visiting Disney World, hunting, canoeing, camping, guns, archery, skiing, chess, playing pool, cards, remodeling houses, building houses and creating “out of the box gadgets” to make life easier for him. He liked working on cars and motorcycles and was a “grease monkey.” He was a jack of all trades – he could fix anything. He was a thinker and inventor with big ideas. He loved his Jack Russell dogs – Dottie and Odie were his companions in Florida. He was predeceased by his dogs Kiwi, Mike, Lock, Key and his Siamese cat, Blue. He loved living life and having fun. He was a Christian man and is now walking with God tall, proud and giving him ideas on how he should remodel heaven.

He is predeceased by his mother, Barbara Evelyn Nelson, father, Charles James Nye Sr., and sister, Judith Marie Rowe.

Surviving family includes his sister, Jeannie Margaret Nye; children, Barbara Jane Silke, Rebecca Jean Wilson and Everett James (E.J) Nye; Grandchildren, Brittny Eryn Silke, Zackary John Silke, Candace Rose Emerton, Destiny Marie Nye, Everett James Nye and Quinatye Frankie James Nye; and great grandchildren, Daisy Jean Hooyman and Julie Rose Billalobos.

He will be buried Saturday, Aug. 4 with a private service. There will be a celebration of life 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 4 Old County Road, Scarborough, hosted by Barbi and Becky. Parking is across the street at the Hunnewell House. Light refreshments will be served.
