Marching to the beat

The South Portland High School Marching Band received its 13th Gold Medal at the Maine Band Director’s Association Marching Band Finals held Friday, Oct. 26 at Westbrook High School. The marching band students, under the direction of Craig Skeffington and Assistant Director Craig Scott, performed along with 11 other bands from Maine and New Hampshire. Sporting their new uniforms and led by senior drum major Max Gailey and assistant drum major and color guard captain senior Rachel Currie, the Gold Medal marching band entertained the packed stands with a crowd-pleasing performance. Along with the 65 Red Riot Marching Band members playing selections from the music of Pasek and Paul, were soloists Max Saffer-Meng on trombone and Sam Withers on trumpet who all brought the crowd to their feet with the five-star performance.
