Land trust announces new officers, board

Richard Rottkov, a South Portland Land Trust board member since 2003 and a former president (2008-2010) of the nonprofit environmental organization, was chosen by the trust’s board of directors to serve as president. The board has also reelected Jeff Ryan as vice president, Sarah Stickney as secretary and Peggy Stewart as treasurer. April Bolstridge will assume the treasurer’s duties in April. The board also voted to elect an executive committee, with Tom Blake being chosen to join the officers.

Rottkov, an adjunct instructor at Southern Maine Community College and educational technician at South Portland High School, succeeds Heather Drake. The seven new board members were elected at the organization’s recent annual meeting. Joining the board are Robert Morrill, Brad Fox, David Knowland, Craig Gorris, Chelsea Scudder, Susan Osborne and Bolstridge.

“I am very enthusiastic about taking the lead with the land trust once again, especially since our board was recently infused by seven new members,” Rottkov said. “With the threat of global warming becoming more real by the day, our mission as an environmental organization is more important than ever before. One of my primary goals is to grow our membership; having more ‘hands on deck’ will enable us to accomplish more locally.”

The land trust’s mission is to improve the quality of life in South Portland by linking neighborhoods, engaging the community in park and trail use, protecting open space, and building trails and promoting environmental stewardship.
