Jazz festival to be held in South Portland

The Maine State Instrumental Jazz

Festival, organized by the Maine Music Educators Association, will be held at South Portland High School, 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. The association’s mission is to promote and advance music education by providing a voice and venue for advocacy and advancement of music education in Maine.

The annual jazz festival draws roughly 60 to 80 high school jazz groups from 35 schools throughout the state.

High school musicians will perform in both jazz combos, bands and ensembles over two days. Individual Outstanding Musicianship Awards, and bronze, silver and gold rankings, will be awarded to various combos and ensembles.

Admissions is $3 for students/senior citizens, $5 for adults, and $15 for a family.
