Members of the Odyssey of the Mind team from South Portland's Holy Cross School, including, back row, from left: Kaitlyn Foster, 11, Lizzie Merrill, 11, and Delia Nee, 10; and front row, from left, Darion Yunes, 9, Rachel Feeley, 9, and Anya Wright, 10, celebrate their win at the Maine State Tournament, held April 1 at Biddeford High School. The team is now eligible to compete at the World Finals May 24-27 at Michigan State University. According to volunteer coach Lisa Merrill, the team worked together after school for more than five months to prepare for the competition, described as the largest creative problem-solving program in the state. "They crafted their ideas, negotiated options, managed a budget, built their set and other props, wrote a script and then presented their solution to experienced judges from throughout Maine," Merrill said. "Their hard work culminated in a performance which awarded them first place." (Courtesy photo) 3p1.jpg
