About 50 students and faculty members at the Southern Maine Community College campus in South Portland participated in a sunset candlelight vigil March 1 in honor of the 17 people killed in the Feb. 13 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. SMCC student council members read aloud the names of each victim, while adjunct history professor Herb Adams, center, rang a bell with each one, following the ceremony with a moment of silence. Student speakers stopped short of demanding greater gun control in the wake of the incident, but did say, “Something has to change.” See more photos on page 2. (Duke Harrington photo) 3p1.jpg
