South Portland resident Matt Donahue is celebrating his 50th year as a professional artist and the first year of his “First Friday” open house series, in which he opens his home at 30 Nutter Road to the public, offering tours of the hundreds of paintings he has on display, from photo-realistic scenes, such as the portrait of his son Michael, now 22, he is seen holding here, to a recent bent for more avant-garde, impressionistic works. A 2014 inductee into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame and a longtime coach for the city recreation department, Donahue also gives art lessons to individuals and groups. More of his works can be seen at www.mattdonahue.com. See more photos on page 3. (Duke Harrington photo) 1p1.jpg
